The Department of Education will be putting up more library hubs to increase literacy rate in Central Visayas.
DepEd Provincial Schools Superintendent Serena Uy said that local officials are set to infuse more funds for the establishment of these library hubs in all of Cebu’s six congressional districts.
Uy said that all six districts of Cebu will be recipients of the Library Hub Project that will be a joint initiative of the DepEd and the six legislators - Nerissa Soon-Ruiz (6th district), John Red Durano (5th district), Pablo John Garcia (3rd district), Eduardo Gullas (1st district), Pablo Garcia (2nd district), and Benhur Salimbangon (4th district) and local government units of Cebu.
Uy said she had already talked with Rep. Pablo John Garcia regarding the project. Also, Mayor Alex Binghay of Balamban town manifested support for the project.
Uy plans to meet Rep. Nerissa Soon-Ruiz to discuss on the funding for repair works of the Gabaldon school building of Cordova town which she believes is ideal place to host the library hub.
Under the Library Hub project, the Education department will provide books worth P10 million while congressmen, through their Priority Development Assistance Funds, will finance the construction of the building. LGU officials will be in-charge of providing the lot for the said building.
The project is set to take off in August. — Jasmin R. Uy/The Freeman/ MEEV
